Civics, Fall 2012

Welcome to 7th Grade Social Studies!

This promises to be an exciting semester of Civics, especially with the November elections coming up.

Our main focus in Civics is two-fold: to understand the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, and to learn the basics of our U.S. constitution.

Class Rules:

ATTENDANCE is extremely important. If you are not here, you are not soaking up the classroom experience nor are you contributing to the learning experience.

CLASS MATERIALS:

ALWAYS have your ID badge and planner! ID badges are meant to be worn around your neck on the supplied lanyard. WEAR THEM AS INTENDED IN MY CLASSROOM. Gold and Silver cards must be displayed with your ID badge.

Every day, you will need your textbook, 3-ring binder, paper, and a black or blue pen. (I require all homework, quizzes, and tests to be completed in ink.)

Before you enter the classroom, make sure you have all required materials.

BE ON TIME:

There is plenty of time between classes to use the restroom, get a drink, and to get materials from your locker, and still make it to class on time. There is NOT time to stand in the hallway and chat with your friends, to walk the length of the hall to visit with your BFF, or to otherwise waste time. When the bell rings to end one class, be focused on making it to your next class ON TIME.

BEHAVIOR:

This is 7th grade, people! Your maturity level should have progressed to the point that we do not have to waste class time dealing with juvenile behavior problems. Don't bring drama and personal situations into the classroom. If you need help dealing with a situation, I can help you or I can direct you to someone who can. BE RESPONSIBLE, READY, AND SAFE in your personal behavior, and encourage others to do the same.

SEATING CHART:

I have an assigned seating arrangement for all my classes. This makes it easier to identify students, to take roll, and to get every class started in a timely and orderly fashion.

I hope you have had a great summer, and that you are prepared to have a great school year.
